CONSTITUTION OF THE MAGNOLIA FFA CHAPTER

ADOPTED APRIL 10, 1984 – REVISED MAY 2018

Article I – Name, Mission and Strategies

Section A. The name of this organization shall be the Magnolia FFA Chapter of the National FFA Organization and the Texas FFA Association.

Section B. The mission and strategies for this chapter are as follows:

FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

  1. Develops competent and assertive agricultural leadership.

  2. Increases awareness of the global and technological importance of agriculture and its contribution to our well-being.

  3. Strengthens the confidence of agriculture students in themselves and their work.

  4. Promotes the intelligent choice and establishment of an agricultural career.

  5. Encourages achievement in supervised agricultural experience programs.

  6. Encourages wise management of economic, environmental and human resources of the community.

  7. Develops interpersonal skills in teamwork, communications, human relations and social interaction.

  8. Builds character and promotes citizenship, volunteerism and patriotism.

  9. Promotes cooperation and cooperative attitudes among all people.

  10. Promotes healthy lifestyles.

  11. Encourages excellence in scholarship.

Article II – Organization

Section A. The Magnolia Chapter of FFA is a chartered local unit of the Texas Association of FFA which is chartered by the National FFA Organization.

Section B. This chapter accepts in full provisions in the constitution, by-laws and policies of the Texas Association of FFA as well as those of the National FFA Organization and the policies and regulations of thee Magnolia Independent School District.

Article III – Membership

Section A. Membership of this chapter shall be open to all regularly enrolled students in classes of agriscience at Magnolia High School and Bear Branch Junior High School.  Membership requirements are outlined by the Texas FFA Organization.

Article IV – Officers

Section A.

The officers of the FFA chapter shall be:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
Reporter
Sentinel
Student Advisor
Or other officers deemed necessary by agricultural science teachers.

Duties per Official FFA Manual; other responsibilities may be assigned by the agricultural science teachers.

The officers shall hold at least the degree of Greenhand and be elected at the last meeting of the school year.  

The President shall hold at least the degree of Chapter Farmer.

Article V – Executive Committee

Section A. The executive committee shall consist of the chapter officers and at least one FFA advisor.

Article VI – Meetings

Section A. Regular meeting of the chapter shall be held on the first Monday of each month, unless otherwise specified.

Section B. Special meetings shall be held at the call of the President and FFA advisors.  

Article VII – Amendments

Section A. The constitution of this chapter may be amended by two-thirds vote of the membership present at any regular or special meeting, provided that the proposed amendment has been submitted in writing and read thirty days in advance and final approval will be voted upon.









By-Laws

Section 1

The candidate shall be of good standing in all classes, take a basic FFA and Parliamentary Procedure test, be elected by peers, be interviewed by a panel of three judges and be present for all election processes.

Section 2

Robert’s Rules of Order govern the Parliamentary Procedure of the chapter of all points not covered by the Constitution and By-Laws.

Section 3

A majority of the members of the organization shall constitute a quorum.

Section 4

When quorum is not present at a regular meeting, the executive committee may transact necessary business when $500.00 is involved.

Section 5

The chapter membership shall elect a chapter Sweetheart from among the chapter membership at the February meeting of the prior school year.  The election will be limited to all junior girls in good standing with the FFA. Sweetheart candidates will be required to give a speech at the February meeting where chapter membership will vote, as well as submit a written essay.  The results will be announced at the end of the year Awards Banquet.

Section 6

Dues will be in accordance with the National, State, Area and District dues.  Magnolia High School FFA members will be considered affiliated members through the Texas FFA Association.  All junior high and junior FFA members will be required to pay dues by the September FFA meeting.

Section 7

The chapter membership shall elect up to five persons to the Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree each school year; provided those persons have done something to promote and to foster the agriculture field with or through the membership.  

Section 8

In accordance of the Montgomery County Fair and Rodeo rules, a student must attend at least 50% of the meetings to show or attend the fair.

Section 9

Any activity that is not attended by at least one FFA advisor will be automatically deemed void and any transactions, rule, or legislation passed or failed will be voided.

Section 10

In accordance with the state law, students must have a 70 or above average to participate in any Magnolia FFA activity, including but not limited to the Montgomery County Fair.

Section 11

The principal of Magnolia High School has the final say of all processes involved with the Magnolia FFA Chapter.
